Welcome To IPMS Ireland

If you are not yet a member of the IPMS Ireland, but might like to be, please click here!

The International Plastic Modellers' Society was founded in Great Britain in 1963, by modellers, for the benefit of modellers. It was originally founded as the British Plastic Modellers' Society, but soon expanded into a truly International body with many branches and chapters across the world.

Ireland originally had a branch of the UK organisation in the 1980's in Dublin, but that fizzled out and became the Dublin Modeller's Society, which in turn folded in 1990. In 2007, a new branch of IPMS (UK) was founded in Ireland, the Four Provinces Branch, and from this modest beginning, IPMS Ireland was officially formed as an independent organisation for the Republic of Ireland in November 2008.

The club has members coming from all parts of Ireland as well as abroad and, currently, there are three local chapters/branches in Dublin, Mid-West and Cork, and overall membership of approximately 65 modellers. Club members build anything from standard kits to complicated scratchbuilt models using plastic as the primary medium. Branch meetings are generally held on a monthly basis, with the main event of the club, the IPMS Ireland Nationals, an annual gathering of all of the modellers, together with model displays, the annual competition of model making, and other delights, including vendors stalls.

To join, all you need to do is e-mail the Secretary of the club, Philip Jones at philipprenton[at]eircom[dot]net and he'll get a membership form to you. Alternatively, you can download the Membership Application Form here, print it, complete it and post it back to Philip at the address shown on the form.

Membership fees cover a calendar year, and are as follows:-
Adult €20, Junior / OAP / Student €10, and Family €30.

Other advantages of membership (aside from the realisation that you are not alone in your hobby) include group tours/days out (e.g. visits to museums, Baldonnel, Ulster Aviation Museum, E-day, etc), discounts from model retailers for club members, and free attendance to the largest modelling event in Europe - Scale Model World in Telford, UK - every November (and participation in the model competition there).

If you have any queries, ideas, or anything that you’d like to see, don’t hesitate to contact any one of the committee. You can find all the relevant details over at the contact page.

Happy Modelling!
