Just arrived today and couldn't wait to start...

The detail is amazing and the molding excellent.

The engine alone has over 20 parts and won't even be seen:

I'll post more pics as I go. Hopefully will get up next Saturday to The Exchange with it....

Cheers

@35th Scale,

Hiya, i got the kit in Edinburgh last Monday, just to make you awake a lot of sanding on the main chassis, as you can see the joins, i do have to say the engine is quite nice, alright, i was hoping to have the bonnet open, i believe the XF-59 tamiya colour is a bit too dark for the light stone.

If I can make it up Saturday I'll bring it with me, whatever state it's in then...

Discovered the chassis issue.. It really needs a lot of filler. I'm out of it and it's on the underside, so left it for the moment anyway...

It remains to be seen if it will sit level once the wheels go on....I'll have to do them next just for a test fit

Cheers,
Sean.

It's a real shame that it doesn't sit on all four wheels. Modellers have been asking for modern Landrovers for a long time and I think Hobby Boss dropped the ball on that one.

Forgot to check if she's sitting level yet....

Anyway, the major sub-assemblies are ready and painting will start this evening.

Progress is slow....it's amazing how life can get in the way of a good build ;-)

Anyway, so far it's all put together although the cage is not fixed in place yet. Just need to start weathering and detailing with bits from the spares box.
The bits I've done different to the instructions are:
Spare wheel will go on the side of the cage, not on the hood. Tried making a basket for the hood but it looked all wrong...I'll put some sore of camo roll on it though.
The SA80s are now stored vertically, not poinging out from the top of the cage (?)
Made sure the seat-belt receivers are on the insides of the seats, not both on the right. Sounds simple but I was quite pleased at how the surgery I had to do came out. Guess I'll have to fit actual seat belts now though....
Moved the seat in the rear to the correct side and build a radio table. The radio is from a humvee...not sure if it's right, but better than nothing...
So, some quick photos:

Thanks for looking and all comments welcomed

Just a quick update...haven't had much time at the bench lately.

Started weathering and picking bits of gear from the spares box:

Nearly there....

Just the wheels and lights to be added, but before the wheels I have to "dirty up" the under-side. Last time I was in Marks I had seen some spray can weathering products. Can't remember the name, but I think it's time to try one. Is this the first step on the road to an air-brush?

Loaded it up with loads of bits from the spares box. Not sure if they are all 100% accurate, but hey, they look good....to me anyway.

All comments welcomed!

Thanks for looking,
Sean

Looking good to me...
Just wondering, were there no seatbelts on the front seats? I know it's military and all that, but Health and Safety is sometimes a bit funny stuff, you're sending troops to war where they'll be shoot at, but you want all the indicators and safety belts and all to be working and comply with some silly H&S standards for Irish environment.

Thanks Filip,
No front seat belts....but the receivers are there....had to do major surgery on the fragile frames to move one from right to left side so both are on the inside of the seats, like in a regular car. I did intend trying to scratch some seatbelts: thanks for the reminder. Might try that this evening.

Finally finished off the little bits....

The actual base color is GWR (Great Western Railway) Light Stone by RailMatch....

Now, on to the next!

It's looking great, especially the extra stowage. I always like seeing military vehicles loaded with extra stowage, it gives them a more lived-in under use feel.
