I'm posting this blog under "figures" because the LSSC itself is so small ans simple the real effort on this will be the 6 figures.

This is the Dragon Light Seal Support Craft as used in Vietnam. The kit has 2 figures on the sprues for the boat and then a seperate bag with 4 additional seal figures and their equipment.
Lots and lots of filling and sanding required. It is an old kit....

The boat went together very fast:

The figures will take an lot more effort. I even got a cramp in my hand filing seam lines

Did I mention I hate doing figures and usually avoid them like the plague? But I might have to take out the PIBR crew and re-do them to go with this....

Cheers

Looks lika a fun project. Never built a boat myself. As for the figures, you have to find a soft spot for them. Once you do, you'll never have enough of them. I'm waiting for a few sets to go with my half finished kits and hoping to have them done for D1.
Then we can talk about who's look more like Admas Family ;0)

You've never seen my examples. I'm ashamed to post this link but it should give you a laugh!
The worst figure ever Whistle

Mind you, if I can try figures, you should try a boat ;-)

This is slowly driving me mad! Slowly only because i'm not getting much time at the bench but mad because it's sooooo bad....

Dry fitting the driver he's too close to the dash-board. There won't be room fot the steering wheel. Removed the supports for the radar mast and still not enough room. It's all going to have to come out and be moved back....

Funny, haven't seen any mention of this issue in any build I've found, including the FSM article I have on the desk in front of me when doing it.

And as for the figures.... I won't even post pics of them in their current state.

Cheers

It does look like an awkward fit.

Will it cause much trouble to move everything back?

A small update....

Progress is very slow, but it's coming on. Figures are not going too well though

It looks to come along nicely. Did you sort out the space issue around the steering wheel?

I might manage to have this finished by Sunday....but probably still wet in places ;-)

Anyway, here's how the Seal team are looking currently:

What do ye think? Honestly please....but I'm pretty happy so far. Another wash and some dry brushing (especially the boots) now that the gear has been added and then just add the weapons.

Cheers

They wouldn't be Seals if they weren't a little damp. Thumbs Up

Personally I think they're looking good. I know figures can be real difficult to paint but you're doing well.

It'd be nice to see it on Sunday but don't rush to finish it, far to easy to make mistakes rushing around for the competition. I speak from experience.

Weapons on the boat, but keep breaking the weapons belts.... Using some old Academy .30s and the kit M60's scratched 2 Mk21's....there were old Korean war era .30's with flash suppressor added and re-chambered for the 7.62 round used extensivly by the brown water navy in Vietnam.

And another wash on the figures to tone in the gear....may have overdone it just a bit!

Stile more weathering/dry brushing to be done...

Cheers

That's looking really good, I don't think you've overdone any weathering. And it looks like you sorted out the seat / steering wheel issue as well. Guns / gun belts look excellent, like the boat is bristling with fire-power. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh on Sunday...

The figures are coming along nicely as well, especially the guy in the back left.

This is for the Vietnam Campaign on Armorama?

Yes, that's the campaign. It was also a nice change from my normal...

Anyway, finally complete, or as complete as I'm going to get it.

From now on I'm getting PE ammo belts....those plastic ones drove me bad and are still wrong/broken in lots of places. The figures came out better than I expected. The weathering may be just a bit OTT but the Mecong Delta was a dirty place....

Hope ye like it and thanks for following this build
Sean

I like it, it's a unique subject and you've done a great job on the figures.

It must have been pretty stressful travelling down the small waterways of the Delta in the dark in such a small boat.
