right lads here is my first effort back at modelling for about 17 odd years...be kind please...its no beauty but im actually very happy at the way it has turned out and that i havent made a complete pigs ear of it at my first attempt back.like i said i found it fiddly and frustrating at times especially when it took a nose dive of the table. a floaty thing is something i never built before and a i found it very enjoyable i must admit after only building planes before..im actually going to have a look at some more ships/boats any comments good or bad most welcome

beautiful work on the u-boat. is it an air brush or a paint brush job. what is the length of it. i would like to get one someday but not much space on my shelves with the 50 or so 1/48th kits already made. once again a very beautiful job

That's come out very well Chief. I would suggest you try adding antenae wires with black thread just to complete the look....

A suggestion I was going to make myself! Or, better still, if you know someone with long hair! :) It's looking great though, well done! The only other thing, apart from the wires, would be to maybe add some weathering. The Tamyia weathering kit has a 'rust' option that you can just brush on here and there, and it'll just take it to another level. Simple to do as well. J. On the bench - Revell 1:72 F-16B

Well, Tamiya do a few kits, each with three different effects. I only got one, which has Rust, Soot and Snow. The Snow is no good to me, but the Rust and Soot come in very handy. I'll be using the Soot on the exhaust of the Hawk I'm currently doing. You basically apply it using what is pretty much a make-up sponge. Just brush the sponge into the power ( which is hard-packed ) and then brush it onto the kit. It really is that simple, you can put on just a little and see how it goes. It's normally the very last step I do, after all the paint and matt coats etc. are done. I think it's about €9 or so for a kit, I know Mark's Models have them, I'm sure others do as well. If you do get the weathering kit, avoid the temptation to put lots of rust around the anchor. As subs rarely used them, they never really got rusty! :) J. On the bench - Revell 1:72 F-16B

Oh, there's a whole world of weathering out there ( as I'm slowly learning! ). The Tamiya weathering kits I use for little touches here and there ( like rust on a u-boat for example! ). I also use Pro-modellers wash to give a good panel line wash on aircraft, and a Citadel wash when I want to make something basically dirty ( like a undercarriage bay ). And then you have dry-brushing to bring out some raised detail. And I only barely scratch the surface, as I want to stick to things that work well but are fairly easy to do too! :) J.
