Nice poster but have to say that the Foynes flying boat Musuem was the 1st thing that I thought of when I saw the use of the Flying Boat logo. http://www.flyingboatmuseum.com/Despite the semi circle harbour for the boat being built next to the airport, The boats never used Shannon but Foynes across the Estuary. Bit late to change now though Hate to see anyone turning up in Foynes!! Cheers George

03 11 2011 Just to clarify that this is only a flyer to stir up some interest for the show next year. The times and other details will be added later closer to the event. Liam

Cheers George The flying boats were using Shannon, George Anyway, the point is, that this is not to promote Foynes flying boat museum, even though they would deserve any support we can give them, but rather use an image related to the aviation-technical history of the region. Again, it could be only me, but Flying boat looks much nicer than civvie-patched up Whitley or Ruinair Boeing, although, they could be used next time the Nats will be around here... From the other hand, why not to pop down to Foynes while in Shannon? After all, you wouldn't have Rineanna airport - now Shannon Airport - without flying boats landing on the river Shannon, furthermore, during the WWII, some of the passenger bound to the UK were transferred from Foynes to the Rineanna and were flown to their destination from there. Similarly, if I'd be designing Cork flyer, I would, probably, use image of US Navy Curtiss flying boat, which operated from Queenstown - back then or Berehaven. Or some of the colorful RAF Bristol Fighters flying from Fermoy in the 1920s. Why? Because, in my opinion, they look cool. Anyway, it's done

I agree with Filip that anyone in or coming to the area should plan a visit to Foynes Flying Boat Museum. It is really a terrific museum, with plenty of photo opportunities.

Oooh. Had forgotten about Foynes lads. Good point, seems a shame to go down and not call in. It's not like I'm passing again any time soon.
I'd like to see the poster but for some reason all I've got is one of those annoying red 'x's in a little box which won't go away. Can you repost Filip?
Regards,
Andy
How do you eat an elephant.... ....start at one end and keep chewing.
On the bench: 1/24 Airfix Bf109 E OOB 1/24 Trumpeter Hurricane IIc, most definitely not OOB.
In the wings: Trumpeter Hurricane MkI, BoB in flight versus Airfix B2 Stuka, 1/24 dogfight double.

Loads of reading on the flying boats on the net and the museum if defo worth a visit.
The seaplane Harbour at Shannon Aiport itself was never completed to handle flying boats as the traffic was just about ended, Transfers were done from Foynes to the planes in Shannon.
On Cork, It has got Naval History, Aviation History and Army so maybe you could do all those in the poster rather than just a plane!!!
The flying boat poster is cool though, maybe revamp the one for Foynes as it could do with a facelift, might be a bit of work for you!!!
The fermoy RAF Hangers were wiped out some years ago now, shame, FAS could of done up and half baked F.2B replica stuck it in an orginal Hanger for a bit of local history. Another bit of history bulldozed.
Group build of Airfix Boeing clippers on the way at all!!! LOL.
