Just joined today and wanted to say a quick hello. I'm returning to the Hobby after an absence of 45 years! Back then I modelled AFVs and that is what I plan to do now. I have many questions but I'll not bother with them right now.

Don,
You are most welcome to the club, and to the Dublin Chapter!
I know you had to rush off this morning after I gave you the membership card...the next meet is scheduled for November 12th - same bat place, same bat channel.....(I suspect that you, like me, are old enough to get the reference!).
Feel free to bring along a model you have completed, are working on, or even that you have just bought (all three types were brought today by the eleven folks in attendance).
In the meantime, if you have any questions, the guys here on the forum (and the lads at the Dublin meets) are well happy to give you pointers....
Regards,
Philip (Jones), Chair, Dublin Chapter and Secretary, IPMS Ireland.

Hi again Philip,
I do indeed Batman!
I'll definitely be at the November meeting. I've started my return to modelling with the new Tamiya Matilda III/IV and will be adding Fruil Tracks and some Photoetch (jumping in at the deep end!) Its' very much a work in progress right now but I'll bring it along to the meeting and hopefully receive some constructive criticism and advice.

Thanks Stephen. I might refer back to you at some stage for those "Targets" if that's ok.

That would be nice to see, the Matilda is a strangely attractive tank and those Fruil tracks are always impressive.

Hi, I know what you mean by strangely attractive...it's why I decided to build it rather than the ubiquitous Tiger/Panther, but in retrospect, I think the latter would have been less fiddly to build. Its more tacked together than actually built but I would appreciate any opinions on progress todate anyone wishes to offer no matter how critical

...and reference material is only 1hr trip away. There's Matilda on display in Imperial War Museum in London. Entrance is free and you can take as many photographs as you can - and, while there, you can see how big one of those /Jagd/Panthers, actually, is.

I've a big collection of pics of that Tank and other Matildas. I definitely won't be going for the Caunter Camo - everybody seems to do that version. Instead, I'm looking at two captured Tanks one called Rover and the other doesn't appear to have a name but it does have a very unusual Camo scheme.

There are some very good armour guys around, so someone will be able to bail you out if you need help Don. I was very impressed with the standard at the convention in October.
How do you eat an elephant.... ....start at one end and keep chewing.
On the bench: 1/24 Airfix Bf109 E OOB 1/24 Trumpeter Hurricane IIc, most definitely not OOB.
In the wings: Trumpeter Hurricane MkI, BoB in flight versus Airfix B2 Stuka, 1/24 dogfight double.

I must say, everyone has been very welcoming and sopportive with offers of help/information/etc. I went to D1 and was very impressed, there were some really incredible models on display. I can't believe the standard the hobby has got to in the last 45 years. I'm trying to figure out how to upload pics and as soon as I do that I'll post.

You'll need to upload your pics to Photobucket or flickr (or similar), and then when you are writing a post to the forum copy and paste the section if the pic that has "img" tags into the post. Then your pics will show on your post...
If you tell people where to go, but not how to get there, you'll be amazed at the results. George S. Patton This space is for rent.(Sshhh! Don't tell the Revenue Commissioners, the IMF or the Dept of Finance, or they'll tax my stash!)
