This was taken in Monaghan Barracks in 1982. Not a great photo but some interesting colours on the engine.

Nice photograph... That 'greyish rusty' looking ring at the end of the engine, wrapped around the exhaust nozzle, is made out of fiberglass, if I remember correctly and was painted light grey.
...and look at the dirt in the panel lines and how the rivets showing up, just goes to show that there is no clean aircraft in the IAC.

Yes it's an FN the Steyr came into service in 88 as far as I know

Nice photo Pat, thanks for sharing!
I've a few photos myself that I'll stick up during the week, these are of the more obscure areas of the Allouette like the engine area & underside.

As Filip said, the engine exhaust was painted non-glossy silver or aluminium & quite clean considering.
However I would have to disagree somewhat that in the later years nuts & bolts would have not been left to rust & stain like that picture from the 80's. (although I could be proved wrong yet :D )

I've been fortunate in that I have flown in a number of these Alouettes over the years (even one with engine trouble!) & I'm quite fond of the little guys, thanks for the nostalgia Pat :)

The Air Corps issued a calendar in 2010 with images of the stained glass in the chapel in Baldonnel, Looking through it, most months have an image of an aircraft.
Could be used next year perhaps in front of a collection of the same aircraft to tie the collection together? Any thoughts??
I'll dig out some old photos as well.
Just a couple of early grey drawings of Air Corps Seafires published in Aviation Ireland in late 1981!

the artist is Myles J. Murphy who gets the credit, I don't know of him, but he produced a terrific set(s) monthly in 1981 in the Av. Ireland mag.
Are they worth scanning and putting up?

Just came across this. I was Monaghan barracks for FCA summer camp in 81 and 83 and flew in Alouette 211 complete with FN as part of a 'stick' of troops. When it landed we leapt out of it combat assault style. I took some photos. In 81 the ring on the exhaust was actually painted Olive Green. By 83 it was grey again.

Generally it was very clean except for the tail rotor and rear of the tail boom which was very quickly blackened by exhaust fumes.
