As promised, here are shots of my most recent builds. I've rejoined the hobby recently and haven't done any building since I was a teenager, apart from an abortive attempt to interest my son in scale modelling about 15 years ago. My experience before that was mainly with Airfix kits, purchased with pocket money and built straight out of the box, with rudimentary brush painting, if at all. At that time I tackled everything from aircraft through AFVs and ships, mostly in the the smaller scales and even some Airfix scale figures. It was something I really enjoyed, at the time, without being too concerned with accuracy. Coming back in, I decided to try to do it 'properly' this time and in around 15 months at it, have only completed three builds. I got a lot of help on these builds on another forum where there are complete build logs of each build - and consequently learnt a lot and picked up some good techniques as the builds progressed. If anyone is interested in seeing them in more detail, I've posted links for each build. Revell Avro Lancaster B1, 1/72 scale http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/start-finish-builds/still-going-strong-15-months-later-26630.htmlThis was a Christmas gift from my son, built with some scratch-building in the cockpit and interior and with Quickboost machine guns in the turrets. The scheme is from the decals supplied, with some modifications. Matchbox Bf109E-4N, 1/32 scale http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/start-finish-builds/gallands-bf-109e-4-1-32-scale-27756.htmlThis was a very old Bf 109 kit I had for years and modified to depict Adolf Galland's Bf109E-4N at September 1940. The cockpit was completely detailed with an Aries cockpit set and a new vacuum formed canopy. Aftermarket decals were used, as the kit decals were not only wrong, but had perished over time! These last few shots feature a correction to the victory bars, which was pointed out to me on the forum. I'd gotten it wrong at first. Revell Bf 110G-2 R3, 1/48 scale http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/10-focke-wulf-messerschmitt/done-1-48-messerschmitt-bf-110-g-2-me-fw-group-build-29238.html This was built as my entry in a Messerschmitt Group Build. Again I fully detailed the interior using an Aries cockpit set, Quickboost exhausts and cannon barrels. The decals were a combination of aftermarket and home-printed. That's it for now. Hope you enjoy it.

If these are your 3 first kits after 15 or so years, than I can't wait for another 3, because they will be absolute crackers! Those are very nice builds and not easy ones, mind you... Multiengines, large scale, excellent!

Wow - some lovely builds there - wish I was that good when I came back into the hobby! Did you say "home printed"?? Many of us in the Dublin Chapter would welcome a master class on how to do that. Maybe we might talk about that when you come along to the Dublin meeting? Philip

Thank you all for your very generous replies. I look forward to meeting some of you at future Dublin meetings. Quote:Did you say "home printed"?? Be delighted to Philip, but Masterclass might be overstating it as, so far, I've only used the technique on one build. I think the March meeting will be my first, as I'm away mid February, when your meeting is scheduled. Gerry

Those are three spectacular builds, I especially like the exhaust streaks on the Lancaster. The yellow on the Bf109 is very vibrant as well.

Thanks Alcatraz. The exhaust stains were achieved with a very dilute mix of black/brown oil paint and varnished. Then I brushed on some white and black pastel dust. This was done last, because, if varnished over, the white tends to disappear completely. The 'Gelb' yellow nose was Revell 15, matt yellow.
