NEXT DUBLIN MEET

The next meeting of the Dublin Chapter of IPMS Ireland is on for SATURDAY December 13th. This is just a social event - in effect our Christmas lunch. Meet at the Central Bank in Dame Street at 12 noon, and we plan to go for lunch to a Temple Bar place - to be decided by vote of those who attend - and perhaps afterwards for a pint and perhaps we might descend on Walshie's shop to pick up something.....

All are welcome - even if from outside the Pale!!

After some time....

The Dublin Chapter is meeting next Saturday week - 18th July - in Starbucks in the IFSC area, Mayor Street in Dublin Docklands. This outlet is directly opposite the entrance to the National College of Ireland in the IFSC. PM me and I will send you on a map. Car parking nearby in the Jury's Inn hotel public car park. Easy (3 min) walk from the Connolly stop on the LUAS red line.

Time: 11.30 am to 1.30 or so....

This will be an informal meeting, to plan our programme of events. However, feel free to bring a model if you wish, for a show and tell, or anything you want to get rid of in terms of a kit swop...

There is no fee for the meeting, but the venue kinda expects folks to have a coffee and donut. We are trying out this venue, due to not being able to find one for less than €60 per meeting in other places. If this one works, we will try it out for the more informal meetings. Exhibitions, competitions etc (well, we can hope!) can be in a more formal (and pricey) venue.

More Dublin Meets

The next meeting of the Dublin Chapter will be on Saturday August 15th, in Starbucks in Mayor Street (see above post) from 11.30 to 1.30. Apart from "show and tell", there will be a presentation/talk on:-

"Techniques in Photographing Models.. and loading photos onto the net"

to be given by Ken.

The following meeting was planned for Saturday, September 19, but a number of us are going to Prague that weekend - to visit "E-Day" and the aircraft museum (see new topic under this heading).

The following planned meeting is to be held on October 17th, where there will be a presentation/talk on:

"An introduction to ship modelling", given by Barry Spencer.

All are welcome. If you are coming from "further afield", please feel free, but I would appreciate a PM, so we can have a proper Dublin welcome for you.....

Thanks to Ken for a very interesting - and useful - presentation. Warning: now we know how to post photos, using photobucket, expect to see more photos on the forum from Dublin Chapter members!! (Should have brought a finished plane as a sample, rather than that half painted hurri you see in ken's photo above.......)

NEXT DUBLIN MEETING

This is to confirm that the next meeting of the Dublin Chapter will be held on Saturday the 17th October 2009 in the upper room of Starbucks in Mayor Street/Mayor Square, starting at 11.15 am (not 11.30 as previously advised). Apart from the usual chat, "show and tell" of models (please feel free to bring one or two along), and some internal business in terms of dates and topics for the next meetings, events etc, - and possibly a round-up on who is going to Telford - the main item for the meeting is:-

A talk/presentation by Lee on "Metal Finishes".

Have a look at some of Lee's creations on the main IPMS Ireland website....

Hope you can all come along. New members, and of course guests from outside the Pale, are most welcome!

Reminder - Dublin Chapter meeting is on tomorrow, at 11.15.

Because of the traffic and parking restrictions around the area, due to the Gately funeral, it might be prudent not to come by car!!

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting of the Dublin chapter is scheduled for Saturday November 21st 2009 at the usual venue – upstairs of Starbucks in Mayor Square, Dublin Docklands, starting at 11.30 am. Apart from the usual “show and tell” of current models on the stocks, the main item is a talk from Barry Spencer:- “An Introduction to Ship Modelling”. No doubt, those lucky folks who have gone to Telford will also be telling of their triumphs (whether competition-wise or shopping-wise! ).

All welcome.

Next meet of the Dublin Chapter is this coming Saturday, 12th December, in the usual venue - Starbucks in Mayor Street in Dublin Docklands, starting at 11.30 am

See my posting today to the (second) Roy.

As usual, all are very welcome (even if outside the Pale!). Given the time of the year, and the short agenda, we might well be gone to a local hostelry for a Christmas drink/lunch/snack by 12. 30, so come early!!

Meeting 12/12/09

Yesterday's meeting of the Dublin Chapter was, as expected, well attended (could it have been due to the fact that we were going on to a nearby hostelry afterwards??). Folks from the inner city (Ken), inner suburbs (Paul and PJ), outer suburbs (Simon), and the Greater Dublin Area (Lee, Barry and myself) were in evidence.

The new committee for 2010 was elected (Ken, Paul and myself), and there was the usual chat about things plastic. We then went for a pizza/pasta. Some, it is rumoured, then went on to Marks to add to their respective kit stashes.

However, the star of the show was this great model of an SAS Long Range Desert Group jeep from Lee Applause.

(photos by Paul)

Thanks, Lee. Hope to see this one win some prizes at the Nationals in Cork in April!

The next meeting is planned for January 16th, when Paul will be giving a talk/demonstration on using Acrylics. Perhaps he will convert those of us who still have hundreds of Humbrol enamel tinlets.....

As always, everyone is welcome, even from outside the Pale!

THANKS PAUL!

Today's meeting of the Dublin Chapter had a good attendance - Paul, Ken, Jim, Simon and new member Damien, plus myself. A couple of the guys could not make it, due to work committments. Excellent meeting - with some interesting models on show....and some purchases and items swopped.

Many thanks to Paul for a very detailed, and informative, talk on the use of acrylics, and what to buy and what to avoid!! (I think that stocks of Lifecolour, not to mention Tamiya thinners, will be in demand - model shops in Dublin please note!!)

Many thanks Paul - it is appreciated.

Plans for the Spring programme were also hatched - next meeting is on Saturday Feb 20th in the usual venue - Starbucks in Mayor Square - at 11.30. Possible outings were also discussed - watch this space! We will definitely be there, hopefully in force, at the Nationals in Cork in April.

Dublin Chapter Meeting 20th Feb 2010

Just back from a very successful meeting of the Chapter. There were 8 in attendance - 7 members (Paul, Ken, Simon, Lee, Barry, Jim and myself), plus a potential new member.

Apart from a talk on the Spanish Civil War, illustrated by one completed model (Bf 109 E-1), one uncompleted model (Polikarpov I-15), and a lot of unmade kits (yes, I will get around to them eventually), there was the usual chat about future events, recent events and things of a plastic nature, all washed down with Fairtrade coffee.

The show and tell involved quite a few models:-

Two amazing 1/144 models, with minute decals and detailing:-

a partly completed A-4 (definitely not a tail sitter!)

the afore-mentioned Bf 109:-

a nice Kawasaki:-

another Mig (based on the well weathered example we saw in Kbely museum in Prague):-

and even a vehicle:-

Many thanks, guys, for a great meeting.

See y'all next month.

Philip
