So the story so far: The rear wishbone units are done and added to the chassis just like the workshop manual Which with some of the fittings and wheels added starts, hopefully to look like the real thing. The final result hopefully will be in RFC green (whatever that is) and marked with FF markings courtesy of Roy Kinsella Alternate schemes or suggestions are welcome. regards Paddy Ps more manture readers may remember the Crossley from their youthfull reading of W.E.Johns and to misquote the Beano of my youth; A Happy Christmas to all my readers, next year in Dublin!

Paddy
lovely job thus far.....will no doubt turn into a competition entrant for D1 in October 2011.
but.......what is this thing about :-
"marked with FF markings"
I'm sure that there is an historical explanation.....but for those of us in the benighted Emerald Isle, the term "FF" only means one thing - the fu**ers/scumbags that have wrecked our economy, enriched their builder and banker friends and plunged the State into three generations of penury as we pay back the IMF and the EU (i.e. Fianna Fail). So tell me that it isn't true.....PLEASE!

Haven't we all got our little penny in form of SSIA? I voted them in anyway, as I've been promised never ending paradise with 110% mortgages and inflatable credit cards without slightest worry of ever paying a cent back. Oh, wait, it wasn't me, I have no voting right in Ireland, so it must have been someone else then... Anyway, please, no politics during xmas time.
And for the 'outsiders' here's explanation of Irish Army Badge and 'that' FF:
The badge was originally adopted by the Irish volunteers in October 1914 as the official badge of the organisation. The Centrepiece is formed of the letters "FF". These letters signify "Fianna Fáil". The word "Fianna" is the name of the ancient military organisation (Circa 3rd century A.D.) forming what then corresponded to he standing Army of the country. The word "Fáil" means "Destiny". One of the ancient names of Ireland was "Innisfail" (The Isle of Destiny) and "Fianna Fáil" thus signifies the "Fianna (or Army) of Ireland". The two letters aree surrounded by the representation of an ancient warrior's sword belt and a circle of flames which represent the "Sunburst" the traditional battle symbol of the Fianna. The words "Oglaigh na h-Eireann" inscribed around the sword belt mean "Soldiers of Ireland.

Filip - thanks for the detailed explanation...not being an "insider" I would not know about army badges and such.
so it's a different FF then.
Just as well. If I saw a FF party badge on a model in a competition, I would have to disqualify it on grounds of bad taste!

Gentlemen, I can only apologise if I am the cause of politics rearing it's ugly head on these hallowed pages mea culpa Filip,s explanation is exactly right. I tend to suffer from a side effect of TMS (Total Modellers Syndrome) i.e if its worth me knowing, everybody else must know all about it too. What I meant was, and Hope this helps and clears the matter up regards Paddy

Paddy, No problem at all, and no need for a tua culpa, either! It's just that those of us who are suffering under the yoke of the IMF/ECB want to blame the people who caused it, and know that the election where we can throw them out on their ear isn't for a while yet. And it is not really politics on the forum, since I was not trying to start a political discussion, just expressing an opinion which (according to most recent poll) over 89% of the Irish population agrees with (I have to say, I do keep wondering who the other 11% are!). To those of you who are sensitive in such matters, my apologies, but the very term FF gets my blood to boil. (And no, Filip, I have NEVER voted for them - I knew they were crooks in any event, ever since the first election I had a vote in, in 1973....). Oh Paddy, by the way - just got my IPMS (UK) mag this morning - nice photo of yourself and Roy Kinsella! Philip

Philip, next time you meet a serving member of the National Army, Naval Service or Air Corps, take a look at the badge on their cap/beret and become enlightened. :d/ :d/ :d/ The only difference over the years is that Officers have a matt black badge to lower the conspicuous-ness of said badge, as it's legend that it was the shiny one on Michael Collins' cap that his assassin/sniper used to zero in on. BTW, I for one welcome our IMF overlords and look forward to serving our new masters... but then I can't post political stuff as others may not share my point of view.......... More interesting reading here... http://www.military.ie/dfhq/history/history.htm
If you tell people where to go, but not how to get there, you'll be amazed at the results. George S. Patton This space is for rent.(Sshhh! Don't tell the Revenue Commissioners, the IMF or the Dept of Finance, or they'll tax my stash!)

@Paddy, just wondering do you have any idea where the pic of the two vehicles was taken, as the building at the back looks very similar to a military establishment where a close relative of mine spent many years.

Paul I believe they are both taken at the Curragh Camp in the middle twenties. I will revisit my sources to double check for you. Philip Got my copy today not my best side I must admit. I must speak to firmly to John when the Show season starts next month.

Nice...
I have to have a chat with you over in Telford about differences between RR of different patterns. There's a kit of it in 1/48, which would go nicely with Bristol F2B, but it's the later WWII pattern.

Nice one Paddy
Looking forward to seeing it in 2012, as unfortunately I won't be able to make it to Telford this year.

Paddy,
That's one class piece of work! Looking forward to seeing how it is finished (will it be in time for May's IMSS in Dublin, or perhaps September's IPMS Nats in Shannon new town?)
Whenever, it's sure to be a beaut!

The level of detail is amazing, the spokes in those wheels must have taken some work?

Thank you all for the kind words, it has taken a lot longer that I expected and I am beginning to be glad to see the back of it. I have a few other things lined up. I added the mudguards and running boards tonight so manufacture is complete. I still have it broken down into its constituent parts ready for painting next week. I was very lucky with the wheels, Graham at Resicast kindly sold me a set of wire wheels from his Rolls Royce resin kit for 20 Euros.Biggest problem is getting the P/E to stay concave and round as you push them out, you only get one shot. I will post final shots ex-paintshop and may even have the Prince August Michael Collins figure finished to pose next to it.
