So fresh from Italeri I picked myself up the vintage collection Crusader Mk III and I found a Hornby Porsche 911. Not too bad for a few minutes of digging about. The Porsche is a strange kit alright. From what I know it's a Scalextric car in kit form, should be fun!

Chief, Have you tried out the "Pledge Klear" yet? Any reports? I was thinking of adding it to the household shopping list if you had a favourable report. thanks David

Hi david Yeah I'm a bit "meh" about it to be honest . I haven't used the old formula but I'm finding this a little patchy and very glossy.. I didn't like the finish on the apache I did so I'm thinking of going backto a matt varnish for the next one Sure for 4 euro maybe give it a go yourself and see what happens maybe you'll get a better finish than me?? Yep, as Filip says, Klear / Future is meant to be Glossy. In general, it has two main uses ( and lots more besides that! ). One to 'coat' the canopies to make them clearer and appear thinner, and secondly as a gloss coat. So, for example, you might paint your model, then put a coat or two of Klear on it, and when it's dry it's nice and glossy for your decals. Then you could put another coat on top of that to seal it in. Then, finally, you choose your last coat, which might be Klear ( if you want a gloss finish ) or might be a Satin or Matt if you want that sort of finish. I used the new formula for a year without any issues. I now have the old formula and I haven't found that much of a difference really. It's probably a little better, but not so much that I'd never use the new one again! J. On the bench - Revell 1:72 F-16B

@fise I know it's meant to be glossy
@Jason yep well explained j. I had a good read up on the techniques I just dont know if I'm that keen on such a glossy finish I suppose a bit of weathering would take that look off it a bit

Yep Barry, that final finish does come down to preference, and sometimes the subject. If you prefer Matt finishes ( I know nearly all my builds are finished with a matt coat ) then by all means keep on using the Klear for the gloss ( for decals, and also washes will probably work better on a gloss coat ), and then just finish off with a Matt coat on top of it all at the end. I tend to use Winsor & Newton's Matt ( simply 'cos it was the first one I tried and it did what it said on the bottle! ). J. On the bench - Revell 1:72 F-16B

I got this a couple of weeks ago from e-bay. Best modelling tool I have purchased ever. It's a Daylight magnifying lamp. James

Yup
Got one of those last year. I agree - best modelling tool ever! (it allows you to see what otherwise only your camera with macro setting can see - but while you are doing the model, not afterwards like the camera!)
James - how much did yours cost?

With shipping it was just under €70, that was because it was used and had not desk mount.
I had a mount from an Ikea lamp I was using but after seeing one of these in action where I work I knew I was on to a winner, I think a full unit cost the job around €150-€160 and to buy the mount it is around €40.

Hi folks,
Roy in Cork did a quick comparison with the new Flash on canopies last weekend at the Cork meeting. After about an hour the new Flash had a colured tint in it and looked a bit fuzzy. Didn't compare to the old stuff. I don't know if it improved after curing for a further 24 or 48 hours.
As for sealing models it worked fine from airbrush and was quite glossy. Decals went on great though (with a bit of help from Micro Sol/Set). As for the gloss, it's personal preference, I think the finish is way too glossy but a dark wash sorts it out. Personally though, if I am sealing paints (especially acrylics) I use Games Workshop's Purity Sealant. It seals the paints great, has a satin finish which creates a metallic effect and smells beter too!
Beware though, if you apply the Flash too thick, it will pool and if that dries it will form a really awful cracked texture with that horrible creame colour. It can really feck up all your previous good work.

The glossier the better for the decal application and following panel line wash, you'll clear the whole lot with preffered varnish afterwards to make the finish matt, semi-matt or gloss. You'll hardly ever leave the sealant exposed.
Thanks for the head-up any bit of news helps.
Although, it seems, that there are as many results as tests carried. I have read in a few mags that the new Johnson's Klear /is that the same thing as Flash?/ is basically the same apart from some application differences, ie. a few misted layers and not too thick otherwise it'll get foggy...as you've said. The report I've seen in the TMMI a while ago said nothing about the milky canopies even though they were trying one. I'll dig it up later. Or, maybe we can do experiment No.2 in Shannon and No.3 in Dublin and we can compare first hand experiences together?
