To TrooperN:-

Simon,

Is this on in ALSAA again this year, and what is the date (I presume Sunday 27th November - is that correct?)

To ALL:-

Are we going to have a stand at it this year, and who is willing to volunteer to come along and man it? I have manned it for the last 2 years (with Paul in 2009 and with Gerry Doyle in 2010), and it would be nice if others were prepared to step forward and volunteer their time to promote the club. (You also get the chance to sell some of your surplus stash).

Thanks,

Philip

Alright guys, the aviation fair is on this Sunday, in the ALSAA club at Dublin Airport, and will be starting at 10am. IPMS Ireland will have display table there during the day and everyone is welcome to come along and add stuff.

Jason and I will be getting there just around 10 to set up the table. Anyone else interested in coming along? The day promises a lot of chat, plus you can sell off your surplus stash or add to it if you see something nice.

Sean & Jason.

MANY thanks for (as our US cousins say) stepping up to the plate! (Sean - I'll get the table cover to you tomorrow!)

I am unfortunately not able to make it this time, for family/Church reasons, until about 1.30 pm, but will be there to cover the afternoon shift.

Anyone else going???

Vinny - you and George made it through rain (in 2010) and snow (in 2011) - will we see you both there this time?

If so, you can let us know what transpired at the Cork meet the previous day! Whistle

I'll be along on Sunday - will have one or both of my two boys with me so probably not in a position to man the stand; sorry. But could definitely stand in for a little while if Sean or Jason wanted to stretch their legs...

Not sure if I'm eligible (?) to bring models yet, as have only been to two club meetings so far. Will definitely buy some kits though if there are any for sale in 1/72 that I'm interested in!

Best wishes,
Dermot

I won't be able to make it this year... I'll be away for a few days next week and that combined with Telford a couple of weeks ago has left me a little frugal with the ol' cashola. The last thing I need to do is spend more money on models... and I always come away with a couple of kits from the Aviation Fair.

Hope it all goes well and those attending have a great day.

Cheers!

So what does this Aviation Fair involve/include? Might be interesting even for a "target" guy....

Cheers

You know I can't find a lot of information online except that it's a fair for aviation enthusiasts. A few places have mentioned flight simulators and air band radios, that sort of thing. I reckon it would be an interesting day, something to bring the kids along too. Plus if you popped along I could pass those PLA figures onto you too.

I'm sure Philip can give a good overview of what the fair has on offer though.

It's mainly, I have to say, for aviation enthusiasts. Apart from the odd flight simulator, and a stand selling air band radios, the bulk of it is made up of stands that are selling aircraft books, magazines or kits. Simon, from our own club, is one of the organisers, and has his own stand (where he sells kits). Have a look on the forum, where I reported on last year's event (where we had a stand, as we have done for the past 3 years).

SEE: http://www.ipmsireland.com/forum/yaf_postst493_Aviation-Fair-at-ALSAA--28th-November.aspx

I have managed to offload a couple of kits or books from my stash there every year, and of course added to the stash from some of the other stands too, but the main purpose of our attendance has been to promote the club, as most enthusiasts who are modellers also are interested in a variety of types of model, and not just aircraft (though this will obviously be a major interest).

As Sean says, it can be worth going to as an outing - the event is in the ALSAA premises, which has free car parking, and also has a bar, with food.

Sean and Jason will be there from 10 - I hope to make it from about 1.30 pm.

Yep, I'll be there from about 10 until around 2 I reckon. I'll have a couple of models with me for the club table, and I'll also have the stuff I got in Telford for Paul and Dermo. See you all then!

Thanks to Sean and Jason for your patience with putting up with my eager son at the show today - I clearly need to teach him some more about not picking up kits! Whistle

The table looked great and plenty of people took an interest in it (and photos) while I was there.

There were plenty of kits on offer at the show with Sean bagging the bargain of the year with a 1/72 Hasegawa Tomcat. I was smitten by an Esci Av-8A Harrier; that makes just 6 Harriers in the attic now...Bang Head

All the best.

PS - thanks for the Telford decals Jason, they look great.

ABSOLUTELY!

Thanks to Jason and Sean in particular for coming and setting up the Club table. It looked really well.

Thanks also to Colm for his display of models - some of which we had not yet seen at the Dublin meets. Great collection - some very cool planes there!

Dermo - glad to see yours also - your 109 with figures got me to buy the Revell Luftwaffe figures from the Greene's stand. Good idea.

Overall - a good day's work, with potentially 3 new members gained, and a lot of appreciate comments from passers-by about the quality of the models on display. (I also got a chance to talk to Walshie about coming down to Shannon in September. I got a bargain from Paul also, with a Tamiya Fw 190D for only €10!).

Philip

PS Paul H - I now have your Telford purchases from Jason. CONTACT ME!
