So the Hawk burden is gone and I can finally do something about another model started years ago. This is my next victim: ...and no, no Humbrols this time

As I've said, it is a project I have started a few years ago and I've done or have started most of the preparation on it back then. I have excellent photoetch set from Aber - edit: it's actually Part - I think and although it looks complicated it goes together incredibly well, like Lego. Main structure of the interior insert, PE all the way: Fuselage sides with that characteristic fabric structure scratched into the plastic parts. Here I should add that I have lost port side of the fuselage over the years and the easiest solution was to get another kit to take that part out. Now, I thought that it would be a pitty to throw away complete kit minus one part and so I got onto contact with Roden. They said that they will post missing part no problem... Fingers crossed, I might build another one straight from the box, I have already camo selected and all. Engine from the box getting some detailing done. This model should be 'naked', well, that's my intention anyway, I'm thinking: '...it might look interesting...'

Looking great so far Filip! Glad to see you've got your mojo going after the Hawk. I'll be building a simple 1:144 OOB build next to remind me how simple and fun this hobby is! J. On the bench - Revell 1:72 F-16B

Got a pressie from Ukraine in today's post. Yes, the port side of the fuselage for the 'spare' kit has arrived. It was well packed and I got a postcard with Fokker Dr.I and SE5a on it and handwritten greeting on the other. Nice touch and well done to Roden. Now I can try twin build and paint both interiors, engines and so on at the same time...
Oh, did I mention that the extra fuselage half was attached to the whole sprue? Hmmm, so now I have some extra propellers, guns and some other bits and bobs. Happy days.

Moving on, now working on 2 Bristol at the same time. One will be straight from the box and the other one a bit pimped up. Have tried Gunze Sangyo Mr. Color paints for the 1st time ever. And, I have to say, I like them. I have started with the lightest colour - canavas - on the inside of the fuselage. A few light coats of paint were needed to get proper coverage, but I found that once the base is established they do cover in a two light coats, obviously depends on the shade. So far, happy with them:

I have moved my own topic as it belongs to this folder - from 50% anyway... The guts of the fuselages are nearly done. There's still a bit of work to do on the detailed one, but the one from the box is ready for closure. Roden made a great job on the interior, but PE parts bring that extra crispiness. Engine from the box is pretty good too, I have only added few extra parts and cables into the detailed version /Irish/ and left most of the parts off on the out of the box one /RAF/ I am still confused with the choice of engine as it looks like that two out of the first 3 Irish Brisfits had a Hispano Suiza engine fitted instead of the more usual Rolls Royce, but I haven't found single photograph to document this, maybe I'll build another Bristol in the future, for now, Rolls Royce all the way:

WOW x THREE I must get my proverbial in gear, and finish the major job on the airfix 1/72 with my usual rigging.

Yeah, rigging...that's something to look forward too. I am still dreaming about doing all the double wires and all, but realistically, I'll be happy with single wires.

Had a really bad night and woke up from the night awakeness totally knackered and with headache, basically in no fit state to do any work on customer's bike, so got some work done on the RAF Brisfit. There are some imperfections in the plastic and a bit of seam line is showing on the engine cowling, but nothing serious and I think I'll get away with it. I mixed my own PC-10 and as description of this colour is 'somewhere between olive green and brown and chocolate brown, but not khaki' it was an easy job to do so. I am gearing up for a major masking job on this one, but just in case that I'll make balls out of it, I'm not telling you the scheme yet, so I can always repaint it in that PC-10 overall. Let's just say it'll be machine flying in Ireland with 105Squadron.

...so the masking job has begun. I was - and still am - worried a bit about this part of the build as it is breaking point. It either will work and I will have unusual looking Brisfit or it will not and I will end up with a lot of work respraying the whole lot in that very common PC-10. I have tried it on the upper wing - and it works, so far anyway: ...and so the fuselage and other parts are being masked at the moment: Fingers crossed it'll work...

Finally decided to bite the bullet and sprayed Red over the entire fuselage and bottom wing. It worked OK, not entirely happy, from the other hand I was afraid that it will be much worse. Just a bit of clean up and it should be grand. The masking peeled off some of the Mr. Color White in places together with layer of Surfacer right down to the plastic. I wouldn't blame it on the paints though, but on the poor surface preparation as I haven't degreased the plastic parts before spraying. Kind of trying to push it to the limit and see what I can do with the new paints. No complaints, so far... eeeehhh, just one, I've heard stories about Roden's decals. I haven't got a problems, but they are stiff as a sheet of 18mm plywood and none of my decal solutions works on them. Thank god, it's only flat surface they will be on.

I am making very slow progress at the moment. But some progress is visible on the IAC Brisfit. Fuselage is married with the lower wing and engine subassembly: and I have been messing with paint on the upper wing of the RAF machine, not quite sure if I like it, but, I suppose, we'll see once the whole airframe is done in similar manner:

So getting back to this after christmas break. I finaly got the Irish Bristol painted and have done some quick oil treatment on it too. There will be more done after tricolors are painted... and here is the dilema, what colour should be where? I know, white always in the centre...
