After chatting to members at the Dublin Chapter today I thought it might be a good idea to list the model shops in Dublin. The following is a list I prepared some time ago for a visiting modeler so feel free anyone to update it There are 5 model shops in Dublin that I know of: Allmodels on Blessington st which is 15 mins walk from city centre is the best for Armor and figures. Paul the owner is also into reenactment and has a stock of militaria. At the moment he doesn't have many resin figures in stock. Marks Models is on Hawkins street just outside Temple Bar and is a basement shop -lots of models-almost no aftermarket stuff- good for tools though- his bread and butter trade is model Trains. Gamer’s World is just over the river from Temple Bar on Jervis st. It's a wargamers shop, Games workshop, Rackham, flames of war etc. A few armor and sf models and good paint selection. http://gamersworlddublin.com/Motorama is as the name suggests a model car place and I've never been in it. The Model shop on Capel st concentrates on R/C Planes and toy soldier collectibles but has a good selection of paints and plastic card and sometimes has a few armor models especially at this time of year. Collins Barracks, I was actually stationed there when it was a working barracks. It's now part of the National Museum and there's a permanent exhibition called Soldiers and Chiefs there with some interesting AFVs- no photography allowed though :( It's a 25 minute walk along the river from the city centre to the barracks or a short ride on the LUAS tram system and well worth a visit. There's a bookshop near the soldiers and chiefs exhibit which somestimes stocks a few models. The coffee shop is good but pricey. Banba Toymaster on Mary Street does a good selection of plastic kits. Also has paints but no aftermarket stuff at all AFAIK

You're right in that Toymaster doesn't stock any aftermarket stuff but they're good on kit prices, being slighter cheaper, and they're also a good place to source Revell Aqua acrylics in the city.
I have been in Motorama and from what I seen he mostly deals in die-cast cars rather than model kits.
The Arts & Hobby store in the Jervis Centre also has a small collection of Revell and Airfix kits but prices aren't exactly great.

Great Idea.
Pity All models has not got a Website up a running. It would bring Good Biz to him...Have not been there for ages.

Just to add Marks has a shop in Dun Laoighre shopping centre and a wharehouse open to walk-in shoppers in Rathcoole. Not city center, but both within the pale.
Gamers World always has a few Airfix kits looking totally out of place!
Cheers Sean

Yes - this is a great idea, since all roads leads to Dublin, and many modellers might not be aware of what is available when they get here.
Yep, no harm in mentioning the two other Marks outlets in the Greater Dublin area. I have to say I have dropped in to the Dun Laoghaire shop once or twice, but the stock was not great - a lot less than in Hawkins Street. On the other hand, if you are going along the N7 and can spare a bit of time, I would strongly recommend the Marks warehouse in the Greenogue Industrial estate near Rathcoole (come off at the Rathcoole junction on the N7 and head north-westwards towards Newcastle from the overbridge/junction, and it is about a mile or two on the right, inside the estate just two blocks from the second roundabout that you come to). It's open to the public Monday to Saturday, with easy parking outside, and a wide range of VERY good stock. Also, the folks there - Graham and our new forum member, dasike - are very welcoming.
There are also 2 model shops in Wicklow - Chiefwiggum, care to give us details???
Philip
PS. Message for the guys in Cork and Limerick - why not do similar posts (with maps, like Pat has done!), showing the various model shops in those two cities?

Can't go wrong with Games workshop on Liffey street for paints or war gaming figures if you want a change of pace. They also have a new product called liquid green stuff. It's a liquid filler and it works out pretty well acutally and can be thinned with water.

Cork will be easy then! OK, this is a very useful idea especially to those new to the hobby or those modellers visiting these shores. When the list is fully compiled then it might be more suitable to move all the information to a new pinned topic in the Tips Tools & Resources forum. I can also create a page for the website (which badly needs content) and chuck it up there too. I do fear all this could get lost in the General Discussion forum and that would be a shame.
